Adventure Ready Tips for Traveling with Invisalign

Invisalign is designed to fit seamlessly into your life—but what happens when your routine shifts, like during a vacation or work trip? Whether you’re catching a flight, planning a road trip, or heading out on a weekend getaway, staying on track with your treatment is absolutely doable with the right preparation. Here are some helpful tips to make traveling with Invisalign smooth, stress-free, and totally manageable.

Pack a Dedicated Invisalign Travel Kit

One of the easiest ways to stay consistent on the road is to have everything you need in one place. A small travel kit can include essentials like your aligner case, toothbrush, travel-sized toothpaste, floss, and cleaning crystals or tablets. This makes it convenient to remove or clean your aligners no matter where you are—airport, hotel, beach, or anywhere in between.

You may also want to pack extra aligners if you’re nearing the time to switch to your next tray. Keep them in their original packaging to avoid mix-ups and damage.

Keep Your Aligner Case Handy

When traveling, it’s incredibly common for aligners to get lost—especially if you’re eating on the go or enjoying meals in unfamiliar places. Always use your aligner case rather than placing your trays in a napkin or pocket. This reduces the chance of accidentally throwing them away and keeps them clean and safe.

If you have multiple bags with you, store your case somewhere easily accessible, like a purse, backpack, or front pocket of your luggage.

Maintain Your Wear Time

Travel can make schedules unpredictable, but consistent wear time is essential for Invisalign success. Aim for 20–22 hours of daily wear, even on vacation. If you’re trying new foods or eating more frequently than usual, be mindful of how long your aligners stay out. Setting phone reminders can help keep you on track.

If you’re snacking more often while traveling, consider shortening meals or limiting how long your aligners stay out at each stop.

Clean Your Aligners Regularly

Your normal cleaning routine shouldn’t take a holiday just because you are. Rinse your aligners every time you remove them, especially if you’re eating out. Brush them gently at least once a day and use cleaning crystals or tablets to keep them fresh.

If clean water isn’t always available during your trip, carry a small bottle of water so you can rinse your aligners before putting them back in.

Prepare for Emergencies

Life happens—even on vacation. If an aligner cracks, gets lost, or becomes uncomfortable, it’s helpful to know how to reach your provider. Keep your dentist’s contact information saved in your phone. Depending on your situation, they may advise wearing your previous tray, moving to the next tray, or waiting for further instructions.

If your trip is long, give your dental team a heads-up before you leave. They might recommend bringing extra aligners or offer additional guidance based on your treatment stage.

Traveling doesn’t have to disrupt your orthodontic progress when you’re prepared and consistent.
